it's that time of year again, in with the scary and wicked for it is halloween. last year i reckoned jared is still too young to put on a costume for the annual trick or treat event in my office. this year, we will be going to a Jollibee Halloween event. no costumes yet as we've tried some in SM Marilao during the 3day Sale, but jared doesn't seem to like the idea of wearing something, anything on his head. i would love to see him as a little pumpkin, or a little bumblebee perhaps, but no such luck. i probably just let him wear his most funky article of clothing and we will be set! good luck to our very first trick or treating.

do tell me about your trick or treat activity. Happy Halloween everyone!

i had the biggest scare of my life yesterday morning when jared hit his chin on the glass center table in the living room.

everyday before he takes his bath, my baby will walk/grope/toddle around the house, touching everything he sees along the way, exploring every nook and crannies of our home.  this day was no different from the rest, and he chose the living room for his daily morning explorations. as he was trying to cross the distance between the divider (that displays the tellie and the other stuffs he'd like to fiddle) his other foot slipped and he lost his balance resulting to his fall and, most unfortunate of all, his chin hit the center table on his way down.

i froze on the spot and i felt my whole body trembled when i saw the blood coming from his mouth as i picked him up.  this was the very first time i saw my son bleed and boy it was terrifying. we were alone in the house and i was on the verge of panic, worrying what's hurt with him, if he was okay or was there any broken bones or should i bring him to the hospital.  thoughts were spewing from my mind 10 at a time that i don't know what else to do but panic! i was hugging my son, his head on my shoulder, i rocked him slowly to stop the crying, then i sat down and took several deep breaths and suddenly my brain was functioning right again. i texted his pedia immediately. this time, my panic subsided and jared was happily smiling and playful again, the bleeding incident totally forgotten.  it left an unsightly bruise and scrape on the inside of his mouth, but i know full well that he will be okay and i know, too, that it was only the beginning.

i just wish babies come with mouthguard and helmets or probably they should make kid-sized band-aids for extra and extensive protection.  and i wish, too, that mummies come with steel (or, what's stronger, platinum perhaps?) heart to take all the horror and terror and everything else in between, that goes with motherhood.

let me know about your nerve-wracking moments with your son and if you have tips for this mummy emergency i would love to hear it, do send it to vixenp33 at gmail dot com...careful now, everyone!

Ethan Jared Turns One! loot bags, giveaways, etc...

for jared's kiddie lootbags, i preordered personalized pocoyo lootbags from chocolatefund (which i got for 16php each including a personalized card tag, which my bro, ken designed)

for the contents i asked my sis, cel, to buy these from divi. i included bubbles (jared's favorite), personalized pocoyo stickers, mini coloring books and keychains (which i got from ebay ), personalized matchbook notes (also from chocolatefund, which i got for cheap!), pens, stickers, nail art for the girls, pencils, erasers and mini face towels and i've thrown in some sweets as treat as well.

for the adults i ordered personalized cupcakes (which spelled out "ethan jared turns one" and "happy birthday ethan jared!"

i nicked the idea of a diy standee from the SP Forum and had a photo of jared taken especially for the purpose. again, i have to ask my bro's help to cut out the tarp otherwise i will have it all ruined, no thanks to my "pasmado" hands! i love the diy standee we've created and so does jared, he thinks it is another kid and he wants to play with him!

for the piñata, i was thinking of wrapping a box with japanese paper then sticking pocoyo photos on it but in the end, we just made a box out of illustration board and put colored photos of pocoyo and the gang on it, plus the lovely birthday logo that my brother also created. i loved how it turned out and we filled it with candies and goodies the children enjoyed so much.

i just loved how everything turned out, i guess for your son's very first birthday you would really love to give your best to give him the best, and i don't really mean you spend thousands of pesos, small gestures plus a whole lot of labor of love goes a long, long mile....

so tell me about your child's first birthday preparations, i'd love to hear from you, do get in touch with me at vixenp33 at gmail dot com...cheers!

a brush with separation anxiety

it is official i now have a toddler and gone are the days when i can leave him for hours at best in his crib while playing with his toys or watching pocoyo or reading (more of tearing) a book while i do the chores, wash his feeding bottles, do the laundry, or take a bath or eat my meals.  now he wants less of play, of books, of pocoyo and yes, even less of his food and eating. it seems all he wants to do all day is walk/toddle around.

since he's managed to walk (groping at things, yes including mummy, to make his way around the room) he is unstoppable. he is excited to explore the world beyond the realms of his four-cornered crib and who am i to stop him? so our new routine goes: in the morning before he bathes he has to do his morning walk, meaning he will walk around the room, the kitchen when he gets tired of the room, and the rest of the house when he is done with the kitchen. and yes, i'll be prepared to have my hands swiped several times as if telling me "ma, no more hands, as if he thinks he is big enough to do it on his own"

when we went to activefun, the gracious assistant there took jared in her hands leading him to the play area, which my baby happily received and as if totally forgetting that i was there allowed her to lead him away, remove his shoes for him. and i was like almost on the verge of panic. i almost cried "no, give me back my baby, there is no way am letting him play there without me regardless of who assists him!" but sooner than i mastered the courage to launch into that litany, sooner than i figured out what just happened -- yeah i realize belatedly that i was having a severe case of separation anxiety, which prior to this i only thought existed in toddlers and preschoolers -- jared was on the floor playing, exploring and having so much fun, with the assistant in tow (apologies to her, don't take it personal!)

he's grown so fast and am now thinking my happy days will soon be over, soon i can no longer keep him to myself, i can no longer keep him from the world. one day soon he will discover the world outside of his mom's embrace and he will eventually have to go out there. but am not just ready yet...maybe i still have a good five years until i will be ready to let him spread his wings.
don't grow up just yet my baby, we still have loads of baby/mummy bonding stuffs to do before i let you on your own. i still want to hug you some more, kiss you some more (cause i know kisses will be scarce once you've become a "man") make you wear cute baby costumes and bring you to professional photographer before you learn how to complain and love you some more, and somehow there seems to be not much time to show you that each day.

another fit of separation anxiety coming through, i only hope vitamin e can keep it at bay!

meet me on monday 03

1. Do you sleep with a night light on?
2. What do you drink with dinner?
3. Do you play the lottery? If so, how often?
4. How often do you go to the grocery store?
5. Would you rather travel back in time 500 years or travel forward 500 year?

no thanks to my fickle internet connection, and to typhoon Juan and the distraction that the barangay elections bring, am doing my meet me on monday third edition this lovely wednesday morning, pardon me...

1. Do you sleep with a night light on?
have always preferred it pitch black lest i will have a hard time falling asleep, but of late, and since my baby was born, for both our sake and safety i have to leave the night light on

2. What do you drink with dinner?
a glass of ice cold  water does the trick all the time! or other times i could use a glass of iced tea.

3. Do you play the lottery? If so, how often?

i play it once in a blue moon but i'd love to win the jackpot one day

4. How often do you go to the grocery store?

as often as i possible can. this has become sort of a therapy for me. i go to the groceries when am bored, thinking hard what else to buy for the kitchen cupboard.   It helps to pass the time and keeps me and my toddler entertained.  Of course, sometimes, someone really has to replenish the pantry.
5. Would you rather travel back in time 500 years or travel forward 500 years?

I would like to believe that I am an old soul and quite intrigued with things of the past, the hoopla, the scandals, the wardrobe and basically the wonder that is of our history.  Going back in time 500 years will be a treat!

Domain Giveaway From Written By Mys

this is another interesting blog giveaway from Written By Mys, the Domain Giveaway From Written By Mys and joining is easy peasy, all you have to do is blog about it and mention why you want your own domain for your blog and, violà, you get a chance to vie for this exciting giveaway and who knows you might be on your way to your-very-own-dot-com stardom!

As for me, ever since I discovered the grandeur that is blogging I’ve always been obsessed, going online every chance I get just to update my blog (no matter how trivial my posts could be sometimes), I just think I have way too much to say (don’t worry even if only two people read my posts or none at all, I do it to keep my creative juices flowing and release some pent-up frustrated writer energy –and yes, to describe in what I hope to be exciting and colorful details, this wonderful journey I have embarked on exactly one year, one month and 26 days ago now), and have added having gazillions of follower in the future, more interesting posts to write and yes, add a domain of my own to that list as my aspirations for the future! It would be really amazing to transform this project of mine into jaredslittlecorneroftheworld.com or probably something shorter, as as I belatedly realized now, I should’ve really kept my blog url short for recall! It will great be to have my own dot com so my blog will have its own personality and identity. Hmm…wish, wish, wish…

easy enough ayt?now it’s your turn to try scoring that domain giveaway, head on to Written By Mys site or simply click here for contest details and particulars. Gooodluck!

let the activefun begin...

a couple of weeks ago,  i was invited to an event, a product launch to be held at the ActiveFun in SM City North Edsa. ActiveFun is a world-class indoor child's play and party centre which aims to promote exercise in a safe, fun environment and play as a venue to develop skills in children.  they have several branches including Ortigas Fun Ranch, Frontera Verde Pasig City and Alabang Li'l Fun Ranch.  they also hold birthday parties and other children related occasions.

it is our first time to go there and the first time for my jared to go to a kiddie play thing.  he really had loads of fun, i must say, he had the time of his life and we are definitely going back there for some baby fun, only this time mummy will be there to join in the fun!
here are some photos from our ActiveFun joint

for more info, call ActiveFun at 332-3929 or head on to www.activefun.ph (while there, also check out their exciting promos for the coming Halloween) .

    so healthy, soyami...

a few weeks back i attended my very first mummy blogger event, which turned out to be the product launch for AM Global Works Marketing Corp.'s revolutionary healthy snack, SOYAMI!

now baby, wait till you get a bit older before eating that...
Soyami veers away from your usual MSG-laden junk food and boast of its healthy ingredient, the mighty soya which is known for it's health benefits such as reducing the risk of certain cancer types, helping lower bad cholesterol, and even eliminating menopausal symptoms. Soyami is high in protein and fiber and is low in fat, sugar and calories.  Now for someone who's been a vegetarian for almost five years, soya has been a part of my staple, taking different forms: as viand (fried tofu), as a healthy and yummy breakfast (taho), and now, finally, as guilt-free, nutritious snack. it comes in three exciting flavors: Original, White Cheddar and Pizza. my  so whatever your snacking preference maybe, there is a Soyami treat that's right for your taste (mine's Pizza!)  in fact, since it is very healthy, i'll give it to jared during mirienda time when he gets a bit older.

Soyami will be available in leading supermarkets and groceries by early November.

For more details just hop on to their website or contact Ms. Angel or Howard 975-0740.

And don't forget to tell me your fave flavor..enjoy snacking!
